Jan Simmons is co-founder
and director of the National Conference Logistics
Center (1996) and the Center for the Study of Small
Rural Schools (1991), both departments within University Outreach at the University of Oklahoma. In
the years since their inception, the NCLC and CSSRS
programs and professional staff have won various
awards for innovation and performance.
Ms. Simmons has directed numerous conferences
held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of
Education, USAID, state agencies and others. In
addition to these national events, she has conducted
and participated in training programs for international
rural educators. She also developed and conducted
eight-week leadership institutes for the top echelons
of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Ms. Simmons holds a bachelor's degree in secondary
math education, a master of education degree in
adult and higher education administration with
an emphasis in training and development and just recently (2006) completed her doctorate's degree in adult and higher education with emphases
in leadership, continuing education and international
education.
Her areas of expertise include leadership, adult
and professional continuing education, rural education,
international continuing education, marketing,
negotiations and overall conference management
and organization. Simmons has edited and authored
several publications in these arenas. She is a
member of many educational organizations and holds
awards from the University Continuing Education
Association (UCEA) and the National Rural Education
Association (NREA).
